Blue Ivy Carter Scores Prestigious Songwriting Award!

Congratulations are in order for little Miss Blue Ivy Carter! She’s apparently following in the footsteps of her multi Grammy Award-winning parents, Beyonce Knowles-Carter and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and has received her very first award! At this year’s live broadcast of the Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas, Blue Ivy along with her mother, father, and a few other songwriters won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award for their work on the wildly-popular empowerment anthem “Brown Skin Girl.”

This award, which was previously referred to as Record of the Year, has been given out since 2009. Blue Ivy’s win allows her to join the ranks of other winning songwriters like Alicia Keys, El DeBarge, Marsha Ambrosius, Raphael Saadiq, and her aunt Solange Knowles!

It should be noted that this isn’t the only notoreity the song “Brown Skin Girl” or Blue Ivy has received. Because of its empowering lyrics, the song became a viral social media challenge encouraging women of color to love the skin they’re in! Also, the song featuring Blue Ivy’s sweet vocals at the anthem’s beginning and end hit the Billboard Hot 100 at number 76 while the album the song is part of, Beyonce’s “The Gift,” debuted at number 2!

We at AccordingToLariah.com are proud to see these amazing accomplishments occur for this smart and precocious seven-year-old! Will we be even more proud if she ends up being one of the Grammy nominees that are slated to be announced November 20?! Let’s hope so!

Be sure to catch the encore presentation of the Soul Train Awards November 20, 2019 at 6:30 PM Eastern/5:30 PM Central on BET!
