Lifelong friends and performers Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Kelly Rowland have joined together to create housing and other resources for the homeless living in their hometown of Houston, Texas!
On June 27, the Commissioners Court of Harris County’s approved the development of 31 new housing units. These units will be permanent, affordable housing specifically for those people who are seeking to leave homelessness in their past. The Houston Chronicle reports that the non-profit organization Bread of Life will use the approved funding amount of $7.2 million to revamp a gymnasium into what will be known as the Knowles-Rowland House.
Not only will there be housing, but additional resources such as case managers, service specialists, and support services that will include mental, behavioral, and physical health support will also be available. Dr. Rudy Rasmus, the founder of Bread of Life, Inc., is no stranger to the outpouring of support for his organization from Beyoncé, her family, and the members of Destiny’s Child.

In celebration of the new initiative, Dr. Rasmus took to his Instagram to share his excitement and gratitude for the continued support of those less fortunate in the Houston area:
Beyoncé and Kelly won’t be the only contributors to this project. The Houston Chronicle also names Rice University as another entity to help bring this project to life. Additionally, there may be a “launch” event that could take place when Beyoncé brings her “Renaissance” tour to town on September 23 and 24. We’ll keep you posted on that!
